We are over halfway through our first year of our exciting project to make our play times even better, in conjunction with OPAL (http://outdoorplayandlearning.org.uk/).
OPAL has won the Best Active Schools’ Programme in Europe award and has been cited in two Parliamentary Reports as “outstanding practice”. OPAL is working closely with Sport England to promote more active childhoods.
The buzz of activity OPAL brings has led to happier and more inclusive play at Monkton Park.
Our playtimes have undergone a huge change since the autumn, with bikes and scooters whizzing round the track, tree-climbing, music, cardboard inventions, dens, delicious mud meals, sand play, rolling around on cable reels, pulling each other along in suitcases, experimenting with the many uses of tyres, sailing expeditions in our blue boat and so much more. Playtimes are much freer and there is something for everyone.
Take a look at what we’ve been up to in the video.
To continue facilitating our OPAL project, we are in need of new resources and loose parts. Loose parts are any materials that can be easily moved, combined and incorporated into children's free play. The items we are looking for are detailed on the Trash to Treasure poster below. We would be very grateful for any donations in order to keep developing our playtimes.
Keep an eye out for OPAL updates on the website and on our Twitter @MonktonParkPlay.
